YOUR HERITAGE LEAGUE
Hello, Readers!
President's Message
July 21, 2008
Sitting in my 'starving grad student' un-airconditioned apartment in summer heat, and contemplating the 'big picture' for the Heritage League in the coming year or two, I imagine the Heritage League to be like a diver, taking position at the end of the 3 meter board with everyone watching, about to do a maneuver of specified difficulty, after years of solid preparation, and be judged.
I can't wait to get into the water, and hope that we make a clean entry and gracefully pull off the inverted 1.5 somersaults, as we know we are able.
At some point, possibly as soon as this fall, the Second Air Division Association, our organizational 'parent,' will invoke its own dissolution clause, as a 'last man out' veteran organization. And the Heritage League, with or without a formal 'passing of the torch,' will be the sole organization aimed at keeping alive and accurate the story of the 14 B-24 groups in the Mighty Eighth.
Fulfilling our mission can and should take many practical forms, and you should think of the League as a framework for your own volunteer effort to appropriately honor and remember those who served and sacrificed-especially the nearly 7.000 who died in the cause-to bring the war into the airspace of the enemy.
Join us in this important work. The water is perfect.
